Brandon & Carrie

Our first date was on September 3rd, 2011 at the Rio Grande Mexican restaurant in Denver where we bonded over our mutual love of Colorado and the Kansas Jayhawks. We both attended KU from 1999-2004 but apparently God wasn’t ready for us to meet yet! After dinner we explored the nightlife of downtown Denver and made plans to meet up in Colorado Springs, where I lived, the next day for a picnic and a hike at Garden of the Gods. We couldn’t get enough of each other! In a later conversation, we discovered that it was on this hike at Garden of the Gods when we both first realized we were beginning to fall in love.

Soon we began ring shopping, but I kept going back to a design online at Williams Jewelers that I absolutely loved called ”Poppy” from the Maevona collection. It wasn’t in the store the day we went to look at it, but we decided to go for it and rely on the fact that I had loved it at first sight, exactly how we fell in love! Brandon went to the store that very same day – without me – and got everything arranged. My family came out to Colorado for Thanksgiving and Brandon took them out for breakfast to pop the question to them! They obviously said yes – who could say no to that face? I had no idea that when he asked my parents, he actually had the ring with him to show them!

The proposal happened on December 2nd, 2011, a day shy of our 3 month anniversary. Brandon took me on a helicopter ride to look at the Christmas lights. But, I was totally duped, as Brandon told me the helicopter ride was compliments of his boss… but he had actually booked it 2 weeks before. We flew over Colorado Springs looking at the Christmas lights and then the pilot turned us toward Garden of the Gods. I was thinking ”Why are we going to Garden of the Gods at night? We won’t be able to see anything!” But, we ended up hovering over the completely lit up Kissing Camels rock formation when Brandon asked the pilot if he could have a few minutes.

At that moment I knew what was happening and apparently my mouth was hanging open in surprise. He gave his proposal speech into his headset and then asked ”Carrie, will you marry me?” and I said YES, but he didn’t hear me because my headset microphone wasn’t close enough to my mouth! So he moved my microphone for me and then I repeated ”YES! YES! YES!”.

We had hiked and had a picnic at Garden of the Gods on our extended first date, he proposed hovering over one of it’s most famous formations, and we’ll be getting married with a perfect view of it in front of us at the Garden of the Gods Club on July 27th this year. We are so glad to have such a beautiful place to come back to and celebrate all of these special moments.
