Since the time I first laid eyes on Joanna in Chicago, I knew she was the one. We had met through a running club in Chicago and started to date a few months later. It took some convincing that we should go on an official date; but once we did, we quickly fell in love. Less than a year into our relationship, my company offered me a transfer to Denver. I was hesitant at first, as Joanna and I had just begun talking about the possibility of getting married, but after some planning, I transferred to Denver knowing that Joanna would be joining me a few months later. Looking back, it was the perfect time to move to Denver.
We had looked at engagement rings in Chicago before the big move; however, it was really our participation in the Denver Diamond Dash that inspired us to look at rings more seriously. Running around the city on that scavenger hunt was so much fun that Williams Jewelers was the only place we continued our search for engagement rings. After much thought and planning, I showed up to Williams Jewelers and met Kay who was very helpful and I picked out the Hearts on Fire Envelop. I knew it was the perfect choice for Joanna.
My plan was to ask her to marry me that weekend, on a trip to Beaver Creek. Unfortunately, my plan fell through as the one attraction I was hoping to distract her with, live reindeer, went home because it was too warm. Fortunately, I was able to use my backup plan stopping at the Dillon Reservoir with the snow covered trees and mountains in the background. I held her close and asked “If I asked you today, what would your answer be?” She smiled and gently said “Yes,” and I pulled the ring out of my pocket. Holding it between us I responded with “I’m asking you today, will you marry me?” and, even though it was April Fool’s Day, she said “YES!”
A few months later, we went back to Williams Jewelers and selected our wedding bands which they are making for us. A simple pipe cut platinum band, matching her engagement ring, for Joanna and a white gold band with a hammered look for myself. I have also entrusted Williams Jewelers with my father’s vintage Omega watch to be restored and worn for the wedding in his memory.
