Ashley and I dated for six years before I “finally” (as her family always says) proposed to her. We met at the University of Colorado, graduated together and spent two years in Chicago together before returning back to Denver. Since our return, we have been football season ticket holders at CU. Ashley and I love spending fall Saturday’s in Boulder with the crisp fall Colorado air,the sun shining, the unmatched view of the Flatirons and the roar of cheers as CU scores touchdowns!
It seemed fitting that we should get engaged on the 50 yard line of Folsom Field. I tricked Ashley into heading to Boulder for dinner that Thursday evening, something about running an errand at the athletic department for my boss and that we would grab dinner afterwards. Ashley reluctantly agreed and we headed to Boulder. As we pulled into the alley behind the stadium and then quickly into the open gate down to the field she began to sense something was amiss but I quickly moved to “this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to run onto the field”. As soon as we reached the buffalo on the 50 yard line, I got down on one knee and asked her to join me on the adventure that is the rest of our lives together. Her first response was “what are you doing”:) We finished the night at the restaurant where we had our first date.
We honeymooned in Hawaii and ended our honeymoon with the CU vs. HI game on Oahu, HI. Some might call us football “junkies” but I like to think of us more as a nostalgic, passionate couple that likes to express their common interests with claps and cheers.
A surprise engagement would have been extremely difficult to pull off without the extraordinary support of Kay at Williams Jewelers. With her and Michael Barin’s help, we were able to produce a one-of-a-kind engagement ring that Ashley and I will treasure forever.
