How we Met
Erik and I met in October 2013 at the RMA 20-30 Fall Gala which raises money for at-risk youth in Denver. Erik looked familiar to me (and he was really cute) so I asked him how I knew him. It turns out we both went to the University of Denver, worked in the same building, had some mutual friends, and I had sold him some raffle tickets at a charity event just a few months before! We were destined to meet.
How He Proposed
Erik planned a getaway weekend for us in Aspen, and I just thought he wanted to go because neither of us had been before. We drove up after work on Friday, and set off to hike Cathedral Lake early Saturday morning. Erik had ACL surgery in March so I was very surprised that Erik was blazing ahead of me on this strenuous climb! We almost got to the top and we noticed we were going in the opposite direction from the Lake. We had taken a wrong turn! Then we had to cross a stream that was almost knee deep, but we finally made it! We rested and enjoyed snacks with some other hikers in an opening by the lake. Then Erik said he wanted to explore the view of the lake so we walked not even 50 ft when he grabbed something from his bag, got on one knee, and I blacked out! I was overcome with surprise and happiness. The hikers at the clearing got some great pictures of us. Back at our hotel, we called my mom and told her about our trail mishaps and she said, “Marriage together is going to be just like your hike; you are going to take some wrong turns, cross streams, and the road will be tough. But it is all about the journey together!”
