How Did You Meet?
Matt and I first met in college at Bowling Green State University. We were both in Collegiate Chorale, the top ensemble at the time, under the direction of my father… Matt had already been a student of my dad’s for two years before he met me.
Our first date was actually a wedding. Two of our friends from Chorale were getting married and I invited Matt to come along, with my whole family. Baptism by fire, I guess you could say.
We were in Paris as soloists for the Paris Choral Festival. It was our second day there and we finally got some free time. After having a lovely dinner with my sister and a friend, Matt and I decided to walk along the Seine River. It was a gorgeous evening, clear skies, gentle breeze, and each other. We first stopped at the Pont des Arts, aka “Lover’s Bridge” and put a lock on the bridge before throwing the key into the Seine. We then continued our walk along the Seine, simply enjoying each other’s company. Matthew led me to the Palais de Chaillot, a large palace that overlooks the Eiffel Tower. After watching the tower light up and taking a few pictures, he asked me if I was ready to go. I responded, “Are you ready to go?” And he nodded, yes. So I began to walk away, when I realized he wasn’t with me. I turned around to find him on his knee asking me to marry him. It was a perfect evening.
Experience at Williams Jewelers
The way Matt went about getting my ring is very special to me. He and my mom designed my ring for me with Williams Jewelers, which is where her ring is also from. My mom worked for Williams Jewelers 24 years ago, at the time she and my dad started dating. That kind of thought and history is exactly what is important to me about an engagement ring, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one.
